Thanks for the headsup. I live at the Gardens anyway, so that works out really well for me, plus, Mikoto is here too. I don't think you've met him - he's my best friend from home. He's really powerful.

That's great! My mentor lives in the Gardens too. So does Sephiroth and Genesis. Those three are the best that SOLDIER has to offer. I think you're right. We'll be just fine. They're on separate teams though. It's okay. If everyone is concentrated in one area, the risk would be too high.

Oh, your mentor? Is that Angeal? Sounds like you know a lot of really impressive people!

I've been wondering though, what made you want to become a hero?

It's been a dream of mine. I met Terra there. I didn't know his face then, but the way he helped me out made me realize that I can do it too. Then...I joined SOLDIER. I've got some growing to do, I know that, but man, hearing about Sephiroth and how he became a hero at 12 really made it clear to me that I know I can. Angeal...he's been helping me out a lot.

I don't think I've heard of Terra before! And what is SOLDIER exactly? It keeps popping up, but I'm never sure, because we don't have it where I'm from.

And, wow. Twelve is really impressive for a hero, but I bet it's also a lot of pressure, isn't it?

I'm sure it is. But you know, he's a tough guy and he's pretty good at what he does. So, I think he can handle the pressure. SOLDIER is, well...how can I explain it. It's a program where candidates are selected and they undergo Mako infusion. The infusion gives the SOLDIER the enhancements they need to survive in any situation. It's not an easy process and some don't make it, but those that do, they're like a one man army. The best way to tell is the eyes. It's a SOLDIER trademark. Color of the sky. Only the best are selected, and only the best of best become Firsts. I'm a Second right now. I'm half-way there.

... What happens to the ones that don't make it?

Um... Well...they go into a coma-like state. It's almost like...they die. Some...actually do. I consider myself lucky, I guess. Mako addiction is no joke. The worse it is, the less likely they'll make it. I was one of ten and four of us...didn't make it. It's painfully hard on the body and the mind. That stuff can make a person crazy. It also wipes memories, for some at least. I didn't know it at the time. I guess, I was just putting it out of my mind. I didn't really know them. I wish I did. So, I live for them. I've got to. I know they wanted to be heroes too. Sorry...I didn't mean it to sound so depressing. It's just...I guess I needed to talk about it.

Well, don't worry about sounding depressing. I asked after all!

I think it probably makes it easier to try for it if you don't panic about what might or might not happen. And, well. I suppose, if you think about it... when you go after a dream, sometimes it can even end like that. They were determined enough to take that risk, right? I think that's impressive in and of itself.

You're right. The risks alone is a step in the right direction. Once it's made, then the real challenges begin. I'm just glad that I've had some pretty impressive people to guide me. I promise, no...I WILL make it. If not for myself, for everyone else counting on me. I can't fail them and I can't fail you.

That's the spirit! But I hope you can do it for yourself, too. It's your dream after all, right?

Well, of course! I want to save people and be that inspiration, so I don't find it egotistical at all. It's just what I want to do. It's good that I have friends to help me get there and they're my most important foundation. You can count on me!

It's not for a while yet so there's time. Already there's me, Terra, and you, then I have to ask Snow, Yuki, Zell, Shuichi, Hiei, definitely Kuwabara...and Tifa. Wow, she might actually be the only girl...wait! I can ask Jenny, Raven and Leon too! Boy, that's a lot of people.

It is! But it'll be more fun with more people, right? Besides, we can hunt out there too, so there's no need to worry about bringing food for so many people, it'll all work out no problem.
